South Korea's Lee Kyou-hyuk set national records in the men's 1,000 meters at the World Cup speedskating competition in Salt Lake City.
The 29-year-old took the bronze medal in the 1,000 with a time of 1 minute, 7.07 seconds Sunday (Monday Korean Time), .04 seconds faster than the previous South Korean record of 1:07.11 set by Moon Joon earlier in the day. Canada's Jeremy Wotherspoon, who also won the 500 in 34.14 seconds, took the 1,000 gold in a time of 1:07.03, while American Shani Davis took the silver with a 1:07.04. Moon finished fourth.
Lee Kang-seok, the former world record holder in the 500 before Wotherspoon came in at 34.03 seconds Friday, took the silver in the 500 in 34.23 seconds. Kyou-hyuk finished fourth in the 500 with 34.50 seconds, while Moon finished ninth in 34.70 seconds.
In the women's 1,000, 17-year-old Kim You-lim set a national record with a 1:16.34, improving her own record by 0.29 seconds, and finished 14th.
Lee Ju-yeon, who participated in the women's 3,000, also set a national record with a 4:08.13, shading her own record by a 1.28 seconds, and finished sixth.
