South Korean outfielder Choo Shin-soo of the Cleveland Indians in the U.S. Major Leagues turned in an impressive performance for the second straight game.
In Wednesday night's game against the Texas Rangers, the 24-year-old player, who was called up to the big leagues last Tuesday from Triple-A, hit two singles with two RBIs and as many runs, helping the Indians stretch their winning streak to four.
With the two hits, his batting average rose to .333 (3-for-9) with four RBIs and three runs in two games. He joined the league in 2000 with the Seattle Mariners,
With the bases loaded and one out in the second, Choo hit a grounder to second baseman Ian Kinsler, sending a runner on third base to home and advanced to second when Kinsler threw wildly to first after failing to tag out the first base runner.
One out later, he scored on leadoff hitter Grady Sizemore' single.
He had an infield single in the fourth and scored on designated hitter Travis Hafner's single to left field for a 6-0 lead.
Choo, who popped out to shortstop in his third attempt, hit a scoring-run single in the seventh.
He stepped up to bat in the ninth with a runner on second after Indians closer Joe Borowsk conceded a tie in the top of the ninth but Rangers pitcher Joaquin Benoit walked him. Choo is the second South-Korean-born field player in the U.S. Major Leagues after Choi Hee-seop of Tampa Bay Devils Rays who is seeking to move to Kia in the Korea Basketball Organization (KBO).
Cleveland won the game 8-7 in the 11th on shortstop Jhonny Peralta's game-closing single.
The Indians stay atop the American League Central Division with the record of 11-7.
