A heat wave emergency warning was issued for Gyeongsan and Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province at 10 a.m. Sunday, marking the first time the alert has been issued since the system was introduced.
The warning applies to regions where the daily maximum perceived temperature has reached 35 degrees Celsius or higher for two or more consecutive days.
In such regions, the warning takes effect when the perceived temperature is expected to reach 38 degrees or higher, or the actual temperature is expected to reach 39 degrees or higher, for at least one more day.
Heat severe enough to trigger the warning poses a high risk of heat-related illness. Residents are advised to immediately stop outdoor activities, move to a shelter or shaded area, and drink water while resting.
