Seoul Cyber University signed a memorandum of understanding on a dual degree system with Vietnam's Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) on Friday.
Dubbed the "2+2 multi-degree program," the dual degree system allows Vietnamese nationals in Korea to obtain degrees from both Seoul Cyber University and PTIT in the field of information and communication after two years of studies at each university.
This makes Seoul Cyber University the first cyber university in the country to take the dual-degree initiative.
PTIT, which signed the 2+2 agreement with Seoul Cyber University, is a four-year national university under the Ministry of Information and Communication of Vietnam.
The institute is also cooperating with Samsung, LG and Naver through the development of human resources.
Seoul Cyber University previously conducted a PTIT faculty and staff invitation training as part of the Korea-Vietnam IT Cooperation Project organized by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and signed an international exchange business agreement for the digital transformation of university education in December 2023.
For the agreement, Vietnamese Information and Communication Minister Nguyen Manh Hung and other officials from the Ministry of Information and Communication visited Seoul Cyber University in Seoul on Thursday for a ceremony celebrating the international cooperation between the two schools and to hold a forum-style meeting.
"We hope that both schools can create synergy with each other through this agreement," Seoul Cyber University President Lee Eun-joo said. "Seoul Cyber University will continue to actively cooperate in exchanges and cooperation between the two schools."
Seoul Cyber University is recruiting new and transferred students for the second half of the 2024 academic year until Aug. 14. Anyone with a high school diploma or higher can enter the university, and transfer studies only require students to meet their academic qualifications by grade.
