Seoul Botanic Park to hold int'l symposium, 'Power of Plants'

Seoul Botanic Park, the city's first botanical garden in Gangseo District, will hold an international symposium Thursday, under the theme “Power of Plants,” according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The event will be held online using the video conference hall at Seoul City Office as the park is temporarily closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will be broadcasted in real time from 7:40 a.m., through the park's official YouTube channel.
The conference aims to share creative ideas on ways to enhance the quality of exhibitions and educational content in botanical gardens and seek innovative methods for contactless operation of the park in the future.
In the first session, various botanical experts from across the world will give lectures on “The Role of Botanical Gardens in the COVID-19 Crisis.” Lecturers include vice presidents of the New York Botanical Garden and Longwood Gardens and the director of Brooklyn Botanical Garden.
The second session consists of discussions on “Paradigm Change in Educational Programs of Botanical Gardens.” Viewers of the video conference may participate in the discussion by leaving questions and opinions in the comment section.
“Although it has become difficult to gather for offline events due to COVID-19, we consider the online symposium to be a good chance to invite a variety of people in the country and overseas to come together,” said Lee Won-young, director of the Seoul Botanic Garden.
“We will make every effort to deliver high-quality and informative content to all of the participants.”
The Seoul Botanical Garden, which marks its second anniversary, has attracted more than 6.6 million visitors since its opening in October 2018.
