According to Sejong Police Station, the Canadian national, 26, showed the YouTube video clip to eight to nine preschool children aged six to seven at a private language institute in the city of Sejong.
The children reportedly expressed their shock at the video by covering their eyes with their hands or holding their heads.
The parents immediately reported the matter to police. Police sought an arrest warrant because the woman is a foreigner who might flee the country, but the request was refused.
The video clip reportedly shows specific equipment being used to extract human flesh.
The teacher told police that she showed the video after the children had asked detailed questions about human flesh.
“It is difficult to conduct further investigation because the children are so young and were too shocked,” said a Sejong Police Station official. Police plan to question the parents and children.
The alleged incident has put loopholes in the verification system for foreign teachers in the spotlight again. Local educational offices grant instructor certificates to foreigners when they have no criminal history of sex crimes, child abuse and drug-related offenses.
The Sejong Metropolitan Autonomous City Office of Education said it would look into the language institute after monitoring the police investigation.
