Seoul City's trash collection services will be suspended from Feb. 2 to 5 during the Lunar New Year holiday, the city government said, Tuesday.
Residents will be able to put out trash in front of their homes again Feb. 6.
Mindful of the large volumes of household trash generated during holiday gatherings, however, 19 out of 25 districts in the capital have arranged one extra day for trash collection during the holiday: for residents in Jung-gu, Eunpyeong-gu, and Gwanak-gu on Saturday; in Jongno-gu, Seongdong-gu, Gwangjin-gu, Dongdaemun-gu, Jungnang-gu, Yangcheon-gu, Gangseo-gu, Guro-gu, Geumcheon-gu, Yeongdeungpo-gu and Gangdong-gu on Sunday; and in Yongsan-gu, Gangbuk-gu, Dobong-gu, Seocho-gu and Songpa-gu on Tuesday.
For commercial areas expecting crowds over the holiday, special trash collection teams will work in shifts.
Before the holiday, 20,000 district office workers, sweepers and citizens will carry out a massive cleaning campaign in major commercial areas ending Friday, the city government said.
