The intense heat wave is showing no signs of abating with Seoul having a record-tying 24th consecutive tropical night Monday, according to the state-run weather agency, Tuesday.
The previously longest spell of tropical nights in the capital was recorded in 2016.
The tropical night condition means overnight temperatures hover above 25 degrees Celsius from 6:01 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. the next day.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said the overnight low in Seoul was 27.8 degrees.
Along with Seoul, most parts of the country also suffered from a tropical night: 29 degrees on Jeju Island, 28.5 degrees in Incheon, 27.5 degrees in Busan, and 26.6 degrees in Gangneung.
The Southern port city Yeosu has seen 27 tropical nights in a row and Daejong has had 25.
According to the KMA, cloud covering much of the Korean Peninsula is preventing radiant cooling by trapping the heat, leading to the high temperatures during the night.
The KMA added the deadly heat wave is expected to continue, with daytime highs over 35 degrees Celsius -- 3 degrees to 6 degrees higher than in an average year.
