Joo Soo-yong has disputed an article in The Korea Times that appeared on May 26, titled “Foreign teachers accuse school of illegal wage skimming.”
While Joo acknowledged that he is an agent representing the foreign teachers at the school, and he holds an honorary position as adviser to Kyonggi Elementary School, he strongly denied any illegal acts related to wage skimming.
Joo expressed his regret regarding the previous article, which decisively claimed that Joo was an offender and falsely stated his acts had already “turned out to be illegal.” The article also erroneously determined that the foreign teachers were “victims” without elaborating any counter arguments from Joo, making his wage skimming a fait accompli.
The management agreement signed by Joo and the foreign teachers stipulates that the hourly wage of the teacher includes a small portion intended for Joo as compensation for providing management, general consulting, administration, recruiting, developing curriculum and providing necessary feedback.
Thus, the teachers have been paying management fees directly from their wages in return for Joo’s assistance in their job performance. In addition, the agreement specifies that the teachers should remit the above mentioned portion to the manager, Joo, within three working days from payday. All the contents in the agreement were mutually agreed upon and signed by each party on his/her free will.
Legal action is being taken to settle the misunderstanding between the parties involved and stop these groundless rumors from continuing to surface. Joo urged that the articles should not contain any inaccuracies or prejudice toward any individuals involved.
