Police have launched free driving lessons for migrant workers, marriage migrants and their spouses in Gimpo.
Gimpo Police Station said Tuesday it will team with driving schools in Gyeonggi Province to help migrants become accustomed to Korean traffic and prepare them for the license test.
Forty migrant workers, marriage migrants and their spouses will take part.
The police have also opened a class for foreigners who work on weekdays and do not have a chance to study for the test.
Gimpo police believe the program will help prevent traffic accidents and expand job opportunities for the migrants.
“Even though I needed a license in Korea, I did not know how to obtain it,” a migrant worker told the Kyeonggi Ilbo, a local news outlet. “I am very grateful that the police have helped me. The police officer even accompanied me to the examination room and helped me write the application form.”
