Provincial News Jeonju to provide free medicals for immigrants

Jeonju Health Center (JHC) is offering free medical checkups to 110 female marriage immigrants in the city.

The examination is available on a first-come-first-serve basis. It covers basic and 19 other check-ups, including hyperlipidemia, electrocardiogram, hepatitis B, cervical, thyroid cancer, and liver and lung health.

The checkup is open to female marriage immigrants aged up to 40 who tested positive for any of these conditions in 2016. Those who are not eligible for benefits from state health insurance can also apply.

Checkups will be available at four designated institutions ― the Korea Population, Health and Welfare Association; the Korea Association of Health Promotion; the Design Hospital; and Onnuri Yonhap Internal Medicine.

“Social support and care is vital to foreign female marriage immigrants, who are in a blind spot in receiving proper medical care,” said JHC chief Kim Kyung-suk. “Unfortunately, due to a limited budget, we can only offer the service to a limited number of people. We will try to expand the scope of beneficiaries in the future.”
