Seoul Cyber University hosts e-learning workshop

Seoul Cyber University began a four-day workshop at its campus in Seoul, Monday, to discuss how to promote e-learning using high-speed communications networks.

Thirty one e-learning experts and information technology professionals from 15 countries attended and shed light on the future of e-learning in higher education in the world.

“It was meaningful to share e-learning information as well as to learn each country’s educational environment and culture,” Huh Myo-yeon, president of Seoul Cyber University, said. “We will keep trying to create a better e-learning environment in which anyone can have easy access to education.”

The university organized the workshop with the Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN) Cooperation Center, which was launched by the Asia-Europe meeting.

The center has been pushing forward diverse projects to narrow the digital divide in Asia and Europe by building networks connecting research and education communities in both regions, and an e-learning project is one of them.

“We will submit a plan to launch the e-learning project within a month,” a school official said.

He said that if the school initiates the project, it will help countries in Asia, including Mongolia, Bhutan and Afghanistan, adopt effective e-learning systems based on the TEIN.

The school has also transferred its e-learning educational know-how to members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) after it was selected by the Ministry of Education as one of the participants the ASEAN Cyber University Project in 2012.
