The Jean Monnet Lifelong Learning Program at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) plans to host the EU Quiz Contest for high school students at its campus in Seoul on July 20 to promote understanding of the European Union.

The school said that the event will start at 2 p.m. at the Obama Hall.

The Jean Monnet Program is part of EU's Lifelong Learning Program and includes three key activities of stimulating teaching, research and reflection on European integration in higher education institutions worldwide.

HUFS became the only university in Asia to be selected for the Jean Monnet Program in 2012 in recognition of its competence and achievement in EU studies.

Since then, HUFS’ Jean Monnet Lifelong Learning Program has been encouraging a more comprehensive understanding of the EU.

More than 50 high school students in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province are expected to participate in the EU Quiz Contest finals, the school said.

The winners of the contest will receive awards from the HUFS president, the chief of the delegation of the European Union to Korea and the head of the project for the Jean Monnet Lifelong Learning Program.

All participants will be awarded a plaque and a souvenir.

After the quiz contest, winners, high school teachers and EU researchers will also have a round-table meeting.
