President-elect Lee Jae-myung will take his oath of office at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Rotunda Hall of the National Assembly, officially marking the start of his presidency.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said the inauguration ceremony will proceed in a simplified format, focused primarily on the oath-taking, following the National Election Commission’s official confirmation of Lee’s election victory earlier in the day.
The event is meant to publicly announce the launch of the new administration both domestically and internationally.
Due to the nature of this snap election, triggered by the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, no presidential transition committee was formed.
The ministry said Lee opted for a streamlined ceremony in order to immediately address state affairs.
Approximately 300 guests — including the heads of the five branches of government, political party leaders, lawmakers, and Cabinet members — are expected to attend.
The event will proceed with the presidential oath as stipulated by Article 69 of the Constitution, followed by a message to the nation.
Before the ceremony, Lee is scheduled to pay tribute at the Seoul National Cemetery.
