Acting president, Alaska governor discuss energy cooperation

Acting President Han Duck-soo held a meeting with Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy on Tuesday, during which they discussed ways to expand cooperation in the energy sector and others, Han's office said.

The meeting came as the United States seeks South Korea's involvement in its stalled $44 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline project. U.S. President Donald Trump has called on South Korea and other Asian nations to participate in the project.

"I hope that economic cooperation, including in energy, will continue to expand in the future," Han said in a statement.

Han also addressed Trump's interest in areas such as shipbuilding, expressing hope that the bilateral alliance will continue to grow under the new U.S. administration.

Dunleavy said he hopes the visit would lead to productive discussions on further developing energy cooperation, including Alaska's LNG project, according to the office. (Yonhap)
