President appoints new spokesperson

President Yoon Suk Yeol approved the appointment of Kim Soo-kyung, the presidential secretary for unification affairs as the new presidential spokesperson, Sunday.

Kim, a former reporter for the Dong-A Ilbo newspaper, will succeed Lee Do-woon who was recently promoted to replace Kim Eun-hye as senior public relations secretary.

After having worked as a newspaper journalist from 2000 to 2004, Kim Soo-kyung earned her doctorate in sociology at Stanford University.

Since then, she has held positions as a research professor at Korea University and as a consultant for state-run research centers, including the Korea Institute for National Unification.

President Yoon also approved the appointment of Cho Sang-myeong, presidential secretary for social integration, as chief of the situation room for state affairs.

Cho, a senior public servant who served at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, is being tasked with leading state affairs concerning public safety and disaster management.

Kim and Cho will be officially commenced on Monday, alongside the newly appointed individuals and senior officials.
