Public opening of ex-US military base

The area has been off-limits since 1939 when a weapons manufacturing factory was set up by the Japanese imperial army during its colonial rule of Korea, and later the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) used the zone as a military base. The USFK returned about half of the land to Incheon City following its troop relocation, and the public can now enter the area.
