The presidential office on Tuesday unveiled the dishes and drinks that will be served at the post-inter-Korean summit dinner on Friday.
Cheong Wa Dae said the menu was inspired by two former South Korean presidents ― Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun ― who hosted the two previous inter-Korean summits in 2000 and 2007, and Hyundai Group founder Chung Ju-young, who played a critical role in establishing business ties between Seoul and Pyongyang.
The dishes include Korean-style roesti, a potato-based dish that originated in Switzerland, where North Korean leader Kim Jong-un spent his youth; “bibimbap” made of rice harvested from Bongha Village in Gimhae, where Roh's body is buried, and vegetables from the demilitarized zone (DMZ); steamed croaker caught off Gaguo Island, the birthplace of former President Kim; and BBQ made of beef from a ranch in Seosan.
Hyundai founder Chung sent 1,001 cows raised at the ranch to North Korea over the demilitarized zone in 1998 in a historic event that activated business exchanges between the two Koreas.
Kim and his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in will take a ceremonial toast with two South Korean alcoholic beverages ― Myeonchon Dookyunju and Moonbaesool.
