A professor who has been recruited to lead the main opposition Liberty Korea Party’s reform committee said Tuesday the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye was “unfair.”

“That was the result of collusion between the biased media and liberal politicians,” the committee chief Lew Seok-choon, a Yonsei University professor, told reporters. “There was excessive political retaliation. There is no clear evidence yet that she broke laws while in office.”

Lew said he was an ardent supporter of Park.

“I participated in street rallies in support of Park ― very enthusiastically,” he said. “The media did not provide a fair coverage on these rallies. I don’t trust them. I will fight against them.”

Lew said the party’s reform should begin with efforts to stand up against the “biased” media.

“LKP lawmakers failed to protect Park. It was a shame,” he said.

Lew was recruited to the post by the party’s new Chairman Hong Joon-pyo.
