Sejong University ranked sixth in South Korea and 306th worldwide in the 2026-2027 Best Global Universities Rankings released by U.S. News & World Report, reflecting the university’s strong performance in international research collaboration and research impact, the university said Tuesday.
The rankings evaluated more than 2,250 universities around the world based on comprehensive indicators including research performance and academic reputation.
Sejong University achieved particularly strong results in international collaborative research and highly cited publications.
The university ranked 19th worldwide in the “International Collaboration – Relative to the Country” category. This indicator measures the extent of international research collaboration while accounting for differences in national research output, highlighting Sejong’s active research partnerships with leading institutions around the world.
The university also saw strong results in the “Citation Impact” category, a key measure of research quality. The university ranked 47th worldwide in “Publications among the 10% Most Cited,” demonstrating the global impact and quality of its research.
This indicator reflects the proportion of Sejong University’s publications that rank among the most highly cited research papers worldwide, highlighting the global influence of its research.
Sejong also demonstrated outstanding research performance by ranking 186th worldwide in the category of “Publications among the 1% Most Cited.” As papers in the top 1% of citations represent some of the most influential research in their respective fields, this achievement highlights the high global recognition of Sejong researchers’ academic contributions.
“This evaluation demonstrates that Sejong University has achieved global competitiveness in international research collaboration and research quality,” said Eom Jong-hwa, president of the university. “We will continue to actively support the expansion of global collaborative research and the creation of world-class research outcomes.”
