Pitcher Oh Seung-hwan, who plays for the Hanshin Tigers in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball league, has astonished teammates and Japanese media with his strict dietary habits.
Oh’s teammate Kazuyuki Kaneda told Japanese daily sports newspaper Sankei Sports about his 34-year-old Korean compatriot’s health-food obsession.
Kaneda, who trained with Oh in Guam from Jan. 5 to 16, said the Korean cooks everything he eats. When he cooks eggs, he removes the yolk and only eats the whites.
He never uses salt, Kaneda said. When he goes out, he only drinks a glass of wine.
Nicknamed “Stone Buddha” by Korean media, Oh joined his former club, the Samsung Lions, to train in Guam on Saturday.
He will join the Tigers’ training camp in Okinawa next month.
