Psy asks for phenomenal guarantee

Psy, who has risen to international star status thanks to “Gangnam Style,” is again at the center of news with rumors that he has asked for an enormous guarantee for appearing in the Lunar New Year special on CCTV next year.

According to a report by the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong Monday, Psy has asked for 3 million yuan (520 million won or $480,000) for appearing in the special program.

However, YG Entertainment, with whom Psy has an exclusive contract, denied any truth around the rumor while admitting that there have been numerous calls from China asking for Psy’s appearance although nothing has been signed.

TG officials said the rumors are groundless and that YG does no make a practice of making guarantee demands.

Meanwhile, Psy, who has been active overseas, returned without notice Nov. 23 to take some time off before performing in an event celebrating the 85th birthday of the Thai King Nov. 28.
