A man in his 40s who was repeatedly caught for speeding drove his SUV into a police station out of anger, authorities said Tuesday.
South Jeolla’s Suncheon Police Station said it has requested an arrest warrant for the suspect on charges of unlawful entry into a government facility and destruction of public property. He was taken into custody at the scene.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 8:23 p.m. on Monday when the man drove his SUV through the glass entrance of the Suncheon Police Station, crashing into an interior wall before coming to a stop.
No officers were injured as no one was present in the lobby at the time, but the crash shattered the front glass and damaged parts of the building, causing an estimated 10 million won ($7,200) in property damage.
Police confirmed the driver was not under the influence of alcohol. During questioning, he said he was "enraged after being repeatedly caught by speeding cameras."
Investigators said he was cited for speeding 12 times this year alone, and 36 times since 2021.
