Prosecutors on Wednesday demanded 3 and a half years in prison for popera singer Kim Ho-joong for fleeing the scene after driving his car into a taxi and turning his manager in to the authorities on his behalf.

Kim, 33, was indicted under arrest on charges of ramming his car into a stationary taxi in the opposite lane in Seoul's Gangnam Ward on May 9, leaving the scene without taking appropriate measures and then making his manager turn himself in.

The singer acknowledged responsibility 10 days after the incident.

"I reflected on all of my faults during my time served at the Seoul Detention Center and tried to repent (my actions) sincerely," Kim said during his final testimony.

Earlier, the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Kim to 2 and a half years in prison.

The appellate court is scheduled to deliver its ruling on April 25. (Yonhap)
