A former convict has been detained for allegedly stabbing his brother to death, police said Sunday.

According to Samsan Police Station, the suspect, 51, stabbed his brother, 58, to death with a knife at a cafe in Gyeyang-gu, northern Incheon, around noon Friday. Police said the suspect was angry because his brother was indifferent while he was in prison for taking drugs.

The man claimed he had not planned the killing.

“I stabbed him only to hurt him. I had no intention of killing him,” he said.

But police believe the killing was planned. They said the man brought the knife to the cafe and stabbed his brother with it multiple times a few minutes after they met there.

After the attack, the man fled the scene, but was apprehended 10 hours later at a hotel in Bucheon.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The National Forensic Service said he died from excessive bleeding.

The prosecution requested an arrest warrant on charges of murder.
