Man tries to board Japan-bound flight with handgun

A Korean man tried to board an Osaka-bound flight with a handgun hidden inside his carry-on baggage, police said Sunday.

The weapon was detected on Saturday morning when his baggage underwent X-ray scanning at Incheon International Airport. The baggage was confiscated and the man, 21, surnamed Lee, was held at the scene.

Police quoted Lee as saying his father gave the gun to him last year and he had no idea why it was in the baggage.
