A police officer who specialized in sexual crime investigations was
for molesting his female colleague.
The Seoul Central District Court sentenced the investigator to 18 months in prison. He was ordered to receive 40 hours of sexual crime education and banned from working at an institute for children for three years.
The officer was charged with molesting his female colleague while drunk at a karaoke bar in 2014. The case came to light after the victim revealed the incident at the height of the #MeToo movement.
“The crime took place shortly after the victim got appointed as an investigator when she found it difficult to reject the offender's suggestion of drinking alcohol together, which was a really bad byproduct of the prosecution's 'seniors order and juniors obey' culture,” Judge Kim Yeon-hak said.
“The case was left unrevealed for a while, during which the victim had to endure substantial mental pain.”
