An elderly man threw a firebomb at a vehicle carrying Supreme Court Chief Justice Kim Myeong-su Tuesday morning.
The attack happened at 9:08 a.m. when the man, surnamed Nam, 74, lit a 500-milliliter plastic bottle containing paint thinner and threw it at Kim's car as it entered the court's front gate in Seocho, Seoul.
The car's right rear tire caught fire, but a security guard put it out with an extinguisher.
No one was injured. Kim did not get out of the car.
Nam had been staging a one-man protest there for the past three months, according to police.
After being arrested, Nam told police he was upset about his claim not being accepted during a civil action he was involved in and bought the thinner at a paint store in Euljiro, central Seoul.
