A senior manager of Korea Asset Management Corporation (KAMCO) has been accused of defaming a newcomer, police said Wednesday.
Busan Nambu Police Station recently concluded an investigation into the case and transferred it to the prosecution.
The incident happened in June, when the alleged victim, 29, contacted the KAMCO manager to tell him he had won a permanent position at the company. The victim worked at KAMCO as a contract worker from March 2016 to February 2018, during which the accused manager was his supervisor.
“Don't come to the office. (If you come) I will show you people suffering because of you. You're trash,” the manager reportedly told the victim. “I cannot forgive you … I won't hurt you directly. I will make people hurt you instead.”
The victim didn't appear on his first scheduled day in the office and later gave up the job. What had happened between the two is unknown. Police said the victim had submitted a file of the foul-mouthed phone communication to police as evidence.
The manager told police the defamatory words were a “slip of the tongue” unleashed when he was drunk.
