A former lawmaker is under investigation for alleged attempted rape late last year.
Police said Sunday the suspect, 69, who won a seat in the 19th session of the National Assembly (May 2012-May 2016) under proportional representation, tried to rape a woman in her 50s at a hotel in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Nov. 29.
Police began investigating in December after the alleged victim complained. Police said CCTV footage showed the former lawmaker trying to take her into the hotel, with the woman struggling to flee.
The former lawmaker reportedly claims he is innocent. Police recently sought a warrant to arrest him.
