Listen

A fishing boat has capsized in the West Sea off South Korea's southwestern coast, leaving two sailors dead and two others missing, police said Saturday.

The ship, the Jay Ho, went belly up during fishing operations in the sea about 18.5 kilometers northwest of Gageodo Island, off Mokpo, about 410 km south of Seoul, at 9:43 p.m. Friday, according to the Mokpo Coast Guard.

The 9.77-ton vessel with eight sailors aboard capsized after suddenly tilting to the right for unknown reasons, police said.

Four of them were rescued by another fishing boat shortly before the sinking, but two were found dead inside the boat later, police said.

They said a search was under way for the two missing sailors.

Police plan to question the four rescued sailors to determine the exact cause of the accident. (Yonhap)
