A man has been accused of murdering a female waxing shop owner whose safety was compromised through a YouTube clip.

The tragedy happened on July 5 at the waxing shop in a secluded area of southern Seoul. The man, 30, whose surname is Bae, visited the shop and allegedly stabbed the owner to death after receiving waxing treatment.

Bae, who had a credit card debt of 6 million won ($5,300), fled the scene with the victim’s debit card, according to police. The man was caught the following day thanks to a tip from an acquaintance. He was jobless, police said.

The alleged attacker told police he set the victim as a “target” after watching a YouTube video featuring the shop. The video, which was deleted after the incident, showed the victim working alone at the shop in a back-street alley.

The YouTuber who produced the video apologized for his unintended exposure of the woman’s poor safety and deleted the clip.
