The CEO of Lotte Group's duty-free shopping service provider was grilled by prosecutors Sunday over corruption allegations that removed Park Geun-hye from the presidential office.
Jang Sun-wook, chief of Hotel Lotte DFS Co., appeared at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office to undergo questioning over suspicions the conglomerate gave huge donations to two dubious foundations, allegedly controlled by Park's friend, in return for business favors.
Prosecutors are investigating whether the group was seeking the government's support to win licenses for the lucrative duty-free business here in return for the 4.5 billion-won ($3.97 million) contributions made to the foundations.
SK Group's Chairman Chey Tae-won was quizzed over similar allegations Saturday.
Lotte was selected by the Korea Customs Service (KCS) to operate the shop, along with five other conglomerates, in December. SK was not included on the list.
The questioning of Jang came shortly before the former president is set to be questioned by the prosecution on a string of corruption allegations, including those implicating local conglomerates, Tuesday.
She has been flatly denying all allegations raised against her. (Yonhap)
