Seoul Shakespeare Company (SSC) is holding auditions for its 2026 mainstage show, "The Taming of the Shrew."
The play is one of Shakespeare's earliest comedies and combines elements of a folk tale about a man who "tames" a headstrong woman. It is set in northeastern Italy's Padua, where Baptista has two daughters — the highly desired Bianca and her older sister Katherina, the titular "shrew." Several men want to marry Bianca, but their father will not allow it until his oldest daughter is married.
No monologues are needed to audition, but actors should familiarize themselves with both the play itself and the audition sides that can be found on the SSC website.

SSC is particularly looking for actors who work well in an ensemble, as the ability to play off of one another with acute comic timing is central to the needs of the production. Auditions will be held in groups, so producers can observe how well actors perform with each other.
Auditions will take place at Hive Yangjae from 1-6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Callbacks will be held on Dec. 13. The play will take the stage in April and May next year.
Seoul Shakespeare Company is an all-volunteer theater company that brings Shakespeare’s works to Seoul audiences in English, with Korean subtitles.
