'Who are the Kurds and why don't they have their own country?'

The Kurdish people are not well-known around the world, partly because they don't have their own country.

The "Refugee Insights" lecture series by Hanokers, a refugee-led social initiative, will give the floor to Ismaiel M., a Kurdish resident of Korea, to explain the situation.

He will answer the question, "Who are the Kurds and why don't they have their own country?" to shed light on the suffering of the Kurdish people.

"We look forward to the interest and participation of many attendees," organizers said in an online invitation.

Ismaiel M. was born in Iraq and earned a bachelor's degree from Baghdad University. In Korea, he studied at Sungkonghoe University where he earned a master's degree in NGO studies, and a doctorate in Middle Eastern and North African politics. He has worked as a lecturer since 2012 at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

The talk runs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. this Sunday at a hanok (traditional Korean house) in central Seoul's Seochon neighborhood. Entry is free, but there are limited seats, so anyone interested should sign up in advance. Visit hanokers.org for more information.
