As people around the country are sitting at home, avoiding strangers, but still trying to maintain some normalcy, eating habits have likely gone out the door. But they shouldn't. It is exactly when an illness is sweeping the country that a strong immune system is vital and Melanie Kim, creator and owner of Bad*ss Superfood is delivering natural plant-based meals to doorsteps to keep those immune systems strong and at fighting capacity.

“Our meals are optimized with the perfect balance of plant-based protein, hydrating fresh produce and nutrient-dense superfood ingredients,” Kim explained.

A superfood is a food that is considered especially beneficial for health and well-being. Nutritionally dense foods like blueberries, kale, salmon, sweet potatoes, nuts and acai berries are often cited as some of the top superfoods as they contain antioxidants, healthy fats and phytochemicals.

“People tend to underestimate the power of natural food and superfoods because we're so used to eating convenience-store-processed food due to hectic lifestyles,” Kim said.

With convenience and health in mind, she creates a variety of different options for breakfast, lunch and dinner with premium superfoods in mind. “Every bite is packed with body-loving vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber to keep you glowing from the inside out,” she said.

Bad*ss Superfood was not even on Melanie's radar when she came to Korea from New York City a couple years ago. She landed a typical company job, went drinking with colleagues after work and squeezed in exercise whenever she could. The vicious cycle caused her to gain weight and experience skin issues which in turn affected her work performance and confidence.

“Determined to cleanse my way back to health, I started working out regularly and researched how to eat healthy nutritious food,” she said. “But I soon faced another challenge as there were no healthy food stores, or any that I considered healthy, as the ones that existed seemed to be serving salads with iceberg lettuce and canned chicken breast topped with a sugary dressing so that companies could label them low-fat or low-calorie.”

After a frustrating period, Kim decided to research nutritionists and top chefs and she created her own recipes based around superfood consumption.

Her first year in business kicked off with a bang when the marketing team at Lululemon Korea tapped Bad*ss Superfood to be the official food vendor for their annual International Day of Yoga (IDY) event.

She hasn't stopped there.

“Recently, we started a project called SUPERFRIDGE™ by BAD*SS SUPERFOOD with an international fitness life-changing community called F45 Training Gangnam located in Seoul. We are there to help those who know how to take care of themselves and put their health a priority by providing grab-n-go post-workout foods,” she said.

Bad*ss Superfood isn't just for big events for gyms though. Via their website bad3superfood.com, consumers can sign up for a delivery or monthly subscription. Deliveries are operated by Fresh Solution, a subsidiary of Market Kurly, which ensures optimal freshness upon delivery.

Dr. Ashley Amas, a local resident and customer, said she uses the service every week. “They're the first food delivery service that has anything close to the kind of healthy food we had in San Francisco. It is so nice to not have to prep lunch and have healthy easily accessible food,” she said. “Bonus points that it's a small business run by a woman!”
