The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) recently launched the Made in America committee as part of the initiative to reduce the trade deficit with the United States and help small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
It is an addition to AMCHAM’s over 30 standing committees that meet regularly to discuss issues relevant to their respective business sectors.
The Made in America committee will host events and seminars that assist small American businesses interested in expanding in Korea and encourage joint ventures with their Korean counterparts.
Headed by partner Kim Jung-wook of Kim & Chang, the committee plans to work closely with the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and other relevant trade-related organizations to improve and increase bilateral trade relations between the two countries.
AMCHAM Chairman and Chief Executive James Kim has expressed confidence in the new committee’s potential, given the importance of decreasing the trade deficit while helping SMEs.
“The role of AMCHAM as a bridge-builder and as a problem solver is even more important than ever before,” Kim said.
“It has always been a top priority for AMCHAM to preserve a strong economic partnership between Korea and the United States. The Made in America committee’s activities will ensure stability and a steadfast win-win partnership. I have the utmost confidence in Kim Jung-wook’s expertise to make this committee one of the strongest at AMCHAM.”
AMCHAM Korea, founded in 1953, aims to encourage the development of investment and trade between Korea and the United States. It is the largest foreign chamber in Korea, with around 700 member companies with diverse interests and substantial participation in the Korean economy.
