A YouTube style prank by a group of Canadians has backfired, leading to arrests of two young women in Itaewon on Saturday night.
What the group claimed as a “social experiment” where they would pretend to eat someone else’s pizza and record the reaction of the person, turned bad, leading to two police patrol cars being involved.
The incident, heavily criticized as stupid and insulting on social media, began when two women and a male cameraman pretended to take some pizza off a Korean couple’s plate.
The Korean couple did not find this funny and called the police.
The male cameraman immediately fled the scene when the police turned up leaving the two women facing accusations of physical violence.
“The Korean guy claimed one of the Canadian girls grabbed him and tried to bite him. However, the Canadian girls claimed the Korean guy grabbed them,” a witness said on Facebook.
Eventually, the two women were handcuffed and taken to a police station, said one eye witness.
“Saw a girl in a black and white Canada shirt walking back and forth on the street while smoking a cigarette at the Tap House near Bakers Table. Went back to Bakers Table and cops were in discussion with people in the alley. Then saw the Canada girl and one other in plastic handcuffs behind their backs getting into a police car,” said the witness.
When contacted by The Korea Times, Yongsan Police staff said that they could not release any information as the matter is confidential.
The Canadian Embassy could not be contacted.
