Musicians will hold a concert to remember Tim Butcher, an American musician who died at 27 on Dec. 4.
The concert, “Tim Forever,” will be held at Nori Bar in Sinchon, Seoul, Sunday.
Participants will include Yuppie Killer, crasher crust band Scumraid, hardcore punk band the Kitsches, female-fronted fastcore band Dead Gakkahs, and Agari.
Admission is 10,000 won and all money will be sent to Butcher’s fiancée, who is expected to attend, and his family, to be used at their discretion, either for medical bills or a charity in his name.
Butcher was in Korea only briefly, but made many strong connections with the music scene.
After it was announced on Saturday that his family had decided to take him off life support, his friends in Korea gathered for an impromptu wake.
“A lot of tears, a lot of beers and a lot of love,” said Ian White, guitarist of local hardcore group Yuppie Killer.
Butcher stayed for about three months in the fall of 2014, traveling through Korea with his fiancee.
“I first met him shortly after he had just arrived, outside the GS25 store next to Salon Badabie,” said White. “He was standing there with (his fiancee) and I just felt like going over and saying ‘Hi.’ We decided to start a band the next day.”
In his time here, Butcher played in Yuppie Killer and Tokki Jot, but was also known for his role in the American punk scene.
As well as being a founding member of Sacramento hardcore band Trash Talk at the time of his death, he was an active member of Minus, Hell in the Cell, Whip Hand, Our Place of Worship is Silence and many others previously.
“The scene rallied like quick and it’s been incredibly great,” said White. “I barely had but to ask and everyone immediately agreed to participate.”
