Award-winning Korean rockers Galaxy Express, having just returned from the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London, will tour Korea this month.

Formed in 2006, Galaxy Express resonated with foreign audiences with its blend of garage rock, punk, and psychedelic sounds and legendary explosive performances.

Embarking on a nationwide tour, members of the band spoke to The Korea Times about London and their new album “Walking on Empty.”

Q: How is “Walking on Empty” different from your other albums?

A:

This album took longer to make than any of our previous efforts ― and that’s a very good thing. Not having a set deadline to worry about gave us lots more time to try different things when writing and recording the songs.

There’s a lot more musical variety on the album and the recording sounds way more professional than our other albums. I think “Walking on Empty” shows a more grown-up version of Galaxy Express.

Q: Were you excited to find out that your new album was going to be mastered at Abbey Road?

Definitely! We worked with some very talented people on “Walking on Empty” and learned lots. Lee Sung-moon did a great job producing the album and it was fantastic working in the studio with Adrian Hall as well.

And we’re really happy with Miles Showell’s mastering work too. It’s amazing to know that something we made has a connection with Abbey Road Studios. We never imagined that when we first started Galaxy Express.

Q: What can fans around Korea expect from your tour dates this month?

We’re going to be playing songs from “Walking on Empty” alongside of lots of old favorites too! We always play with a lot of energy and love when fans dance and scream along with us. I think everyone is going to have a blast. Please come and get wild, crazy, and sweaty with us!

Walking on Empty” was recorded and mixed by Adrian Hall (Black Eyed Peas, Depeche Mode, Ray Davies) and mastered at the famed Abbey Road Studios by Miles Showell (Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Underworld).

The cross-country tour started in Gangneung Nov. 8 at Club Rush; further dates take the trio to Incheon Nov. 13 at Glastonbury, Jeonju Nov. 20 at Deep Into, Gwangju Nov. 21 at Nevermind, Daejeon Nov. 22 at Bookcafe Idee, Daegu Nov. 27 at Club Heavy, Busan Nov. 28 at Club Realize, and Gyeongju Nov. 29 at Music Cafe.
