The Yeoksam Global Village Center in southern Seoul is offering a class where foreigner participants can learn to cook Korean food.
Featuring Korean popular dishes dakgalbi (spicy chicken ribs) and makguksu (buckwheat noodles), the class will take place in Seodaemun on July 25.
Dakgalbi is prepared by marinating chopped chicken in spicy red pepper paste or soy sauce with seasoning for about one day. Cabbage, green onions, sweet potatoes, and cylinder-shaped rice cakes are then added and the ingredients are all placed in a large cast iron pan.
The mixture is then typically stir-fried at the table. Dakgalbi can be enjoyed on its own or wrapped in lettuce leaves for a fresh, crunchy taste. After most of the meat is eaten, rice is then stir-fried with the remaining sauce in the pan.
Makguksu is closely related to naengmyeon, the archetypal Korean cold noodle dish, and is Chuncheon's specialty food along with dakgalbi. It is made by boiling buckwheat noodles, putting the cooled noodles in cold kimchi fluid or dongchimi (daikon water kimchi), and adding some vegetables and spices to the mixture.
