The Seoul International Hikers Club (SIHC) will trek around the rich forest surrounding Seoul Grand Park Zoo at the foot of Mt. Cheonggye on the Gwacheon side, Gyeonggi Province, on June 8.
The seven-kilometer trail takes, on average, two-and-a-half hours to complete, but the event might take around four hours (allowing for 25 minutes each way from the nearest subway station).
The path was designed as a walking course based on various themes and there are plenty of picnic benches for the public to rest at.
Many benefit from the cool breezes. On a scale of one to 10, the level of difficulty is four.
If hiking with children, you can get to the biggest zoo in Korea or the National Science Museum in front of the park or the IT Science Hall in the park. (Museum admission fee is 2,000 won for a child and 4,000 won per adult)
There is no participation fee ― each person will pay an admission fee to the park of 3,000 won and for their own meal after the hike (optional).
The group will meet outside exit 2 of Seoul Grand Park Station, line 4, stop 437 at 10:30 a.m.
If you plan to attend, please email
so the organizers have an idea how many people to expect. If you are participating for the first time, provide your basic contact information (such as your office name and phone number, and your mobile-phone number. This is requested beforehand in case of possible emergencies.)
Make sure you wear good walking shoes. Even if the weather is warm, the SIHC recommends that you do not wear light casual sandals.
The SIHC does not cancel its walks due to inclement weather. However, if an outdoor event is not possible, coordinators will make arrangements for alternative activities (such as going on a shorter, safer walk or to a cultural exhibition).
