A new version of "Medea, the classic Greek tragedy that has been beautifully updated by Scotland's poet laureate, Liz Lochhead, will be staged in Seoul this weekend.

Seoul’s Probationary Theater Company will bring this show the White Box Theater for three nights from May 10 to 12.

Directed by Robbie Quinn, the Euripides classic based upon the myth of

Medea

that deals with murder, infidelity and revenge was recently modernized by Lochhead in her book published in 2001.

“Liz Lochhead’s stunning new version of Medea is the kind of interpretation ― brave, visionary, risky ― that blows a well-known text apart and reassembles it in a completely new light … What Lochhead does is to recast Medea as an episode ― ancient but new, cosmic yet agonizingly familiar ― in a sex war which is recognizable to every woman, and most of the men, in the theatre ...” stated the Scotsman in 2001.

Performance times are Friday 9 p.m. only and Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Tickets cost 15,000 won and booking is recommended.

To get to White Box Theater, leave exit 2 of Hyochang Park Station, make a U-turn (180 degrees) and walk around the corner toward Hyochang Park Stadium. Do not walk straight from the exit. There are big green street signs in English showing the way to Hyochang Staduim.

Walk past the tire store and take a right when you see the Eco & Deco Flower Shop on your right. Head up the slight hill. You should see Cosmai Cafe on your right. White Box Theater is in the basement of the building next to Cosmai Cafe. Total walking time should not exceed five minutes.
