A 12-week course for those wishing to learn traditional Korean musical instruments will be available at the National Gugak Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul, starting on March 9.
Titled “
2013 Music Class for Foreigners
― Spring Semester,” the program will cover instruments such as the janggu (hourglass-shaped drum), gayageum (12-stringed zither), haegeum (two-stringed zither) and include samulnori (percussion ensemble).
The course will be conducted in English or Korean (with language assistance).
It will be divided into two categories. Class A for those who are used to reading music scores (this will be conducted in English) and Class B for those who're not used to reading music scores (this class conducted in Korean with an interpreter).
The prerequisite for the samulnori classes are skills in janggu and other percussion instruments.
The full course will run every Saturday from March 9 to May 25 commencing at 10:30 a.m.
The cost is 30,000 won (covering the whole 12-week course) and the application deadline is March 7.
