Probationary Theatre Company (PTC) is launching a new season of shows staged at the White Box Theatre in Hyochang Park, Seoul beginning with the New York piece “Good People.”

The

David Lindsay-Abaire

work was first staged in Manhattan in 2011 and it was nominated for two

Tony Awards

Best Play

and

Best Leading Actress in a Play

(

Frances McDormand

), with the latter winning.

The plot revolves around the character, Margie, whose existence hangs by a thread.

She is fired from her low-wage job at a dollar store because the demands of taking care for her mentally disabled adult daughter often causes her to report to work late.

Her landlord, who is also a “friend,” is threatening to kick her out now that she’s unemployed. And the one person who might actually be able to help her, an old boyfriend from Southie, a Boston neighborhood who is now a successful doctor, doesn’t even want her to attend his birthday party for fear of embarrassment. The only hope left seems to be a good round of bingo. And maybe some good people, if Margie can find them.

The director of last year’s “Red Light Winter,” Stephen Glaspie, promises to have audiences rolling in the aisles with this wonderful new comedy about good people fallen on hard times and how they deal with them.

“A play about selfishness, self reliance and self sacrifice,” states a press release.

Dates are Jan. 25, 26 and 27 and Feb. 1, 2, and 3. Performance times are Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets cost 15,000 won.
