Members of the Korea-Australia Friendship Society (KAFS) held a picnic at Yongsan Family Park to welcome newly arrived Australians and thank volunteers for their hard work during the year.

With a welcome speech from KAFS President Kim Song-hee and thank you speech from Australian Deputy Head of Command Brendan Berne, the events got underway at 11 a.m.

Activities included dancing, an introduction to traditional folk games and food and a rice cake making lesson.

Berne thanked KAFS members for their hard work and dedication.

“I applaud people in Korea for their generosity and dedication to keeping strong ties between our two countries,” Berne said.

“It’s an honor to continue to serve in such a wonderful place.”

KAFS has been active for some 30 years as a program that involves the exchange of ideas and skills between Korea and Australia. These include job training, educational programs and trade opportunities.

The picnic wrapped up at 2 p.m. with some electing to take a tour of the nearby War Memorial of Korea.
