The Han River Riders Cycling Club (HRR) held two races beside the Han River Saturday, both beginning at 8 a.m.
Starting from the north bank by the Banpo Bridge near central Seoul, cyclists were given the choice of two circuits, either 160 or 80 kilometers, with both courses winding their way around the Han River and finishing up at Mt. Nam.
For the most part cyclists rode in teams with Paul Togio, David Wills and Jeff Law winning the 80 kilometer ride in 3 hours 21 minutes. The 160 kilometer ride was completed first by Mark Benton and Han Choo-woo in 5 hours 45 minutes.
The HRR was formed as a way to bring every style of cyclist in Korea together in a strong and interactive social forum.
In addition to meeting for various bicycle and social outings the group also has a Facebook page.
“The group’s Facebook page is here to establish an online meeting point for expats and Korean cyclists, by providing interactive maps that members have created, general discussion topics, discussion topics about desired routes, recommendations on gear sources and repair sources,” states the posting.
“The leadership here at HRR also intends on doing our best to hold as many yearly events as possible in order to bring riders together outside of the Facebook page.”
There are plans for future bike rides and tours, however the weather is becoming an issue.
