Busan surfing festival successful

Despite an absence of big waves and having to move location, this year’s Busan International Surfing Festival, co-sponsored by Kai Surf shop and Canvas surfboards, held on the weekend of Sept. 8 – 9, was a resounding success.

Due to wave conditions, the competition was moved from the regular spot at Haeundae Beach to the less accessible but more popular Songjeong Beach.

Attracting over 200 surfers from Korea and abroad, including a team from Japan, the event proved to be a chance for locals and foreigners to share surfing strategies and the latest technologies.

The shift in location also meant fewer chances of possible run-ins with the sea police because the area is populated by dedicated, experienced surfers.

This event is a lead up to the Busan 2013 Mayor’s Cup.
