Expat troupe Probationary Theatre Company (PTC) will open its doors with “If These Tables Could Talk,” a full-length comic drama, on Sept. 2 through Sept. 4 at the White Box Theater located in the Hyochang Park area.

Set in modern times in a New York restaurant with a variety of characters that may seem all too familiar, “If” allows the audience a chance to eavesdrop on peoples’ private conversations from the safety of their own seats.

Presented in the style of a one-act play, three tables are arranged, center stage, and individually lit for each new scene. The comical play follows two cynical waitresses as they traipse from table to table serving food and drinks, whilst the audience unravels the dysfunctional, hilarious and astonishing lives of these “normal” people.

“If” was fortunate to hone the talents of Kevin Lambert, Kimberly Thomson and Desiree Munro to direct the comedy. Additionally creative director of Probationary Theatre Company, Ms. Munro arranged the hilarious play and acts in it herself, while performing opposite her husband and co-owner of PTC, Liam Mitchinson.

A skilled veteran of Seoul’s theater community, Kevin Lambert most recently performed in “It’s Not Easy Being Seen,” and has directed a short film.

“It’s a show I’ve been wanting to do for a while,” said Munro.

“So many life-changing moments happen whilst we’re sitting down to a meal in public, it’s only natural to find so many great plays and scenes set at a restaurant ― I thought it was well and truly time to put them all together.”

This eclectic and international cast of 14 experienced actors will take the audience on an emotional rollercoaster which will be sure to make them think next time they sit down to a coffee at their local cafe.

Doors open Sept. 2 at 8.30 p.m. The play is scheduled to run through Sept. 4.

Tickets are 15,000 won and can be purchased at the door.

White Box Theater is located at Hyochang Park subway station near exit 2.
