A host of expat comedians are set to entertain local audiences in the name of charity at Roofers in Itaewon this weekend.
Kicking off at 8 p.m. on July 8 and 9, the Stand-up Expat World Tour 2011 will feature international stand-up comedians and celebrities with profits going to the United Nation’s non-profit organization World Food Programme (WFP) “wefeedback” campaign.
Promoting an international sense of humor, East-Side comedy presents an all star cast of comedians from the United States, United Kingdom and the Netherlands with the aim to feed thousands of children around the world
Featured on networks such as HBO, BBC, NBC and MTV, the lineup includes Jodi Miller, Ian Edwards and Rick Shapiro from the U.S. and Berlin-based British comedian Dharmander Singh.
There will also be a mixture of veteran comedians and rising stars with familiar faces such as Lois Bromfield, Colin Kane, Paula Bel and the Jamaican-born, “Californian Laugh Factory” regular Ian Edwards, along with local comics from “Stand up Seoul.”
The show will be hosted by the Dutch Emmy actor and comedian Didier Chabi (All Stars, Floris, Guest-Room California) and the king of comedy in the U.A.E. Nitin Mirani.
Formed in December 1994, the WFP is the food aid arm of the United Nations system with policies aimed towards eradicating hunger and poverty.
“The ultimate objective of food aid should be the elimination of the need for food aid,” according to a mission statement.
The wefeedback slogan is “sharing food, changing lives.”
In 2011, WFP aims to bring food assistance to more than 90 million people in 73 countries.
Before each performance, there will be a rooftop barbeque beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets for the performance, including the rooftop BBQ, are 40,000 won (presale) or 55,000 won at the door.
Roofers rooftop bar and restaurant is often host to art exhibitions and stage performances.
To get there leave Itaewon Station (line 6) from exit 3 and walk straight one block and turn right at Dunkin Donuts. Walk up the hill for two blocks and Roofers is on the right, across from the Foreign Food Mart, on the third floor.
